This is the first year of the 997 Generation of 911. The ill received headlight of the 996 are gone and the iconic circular lights are back. A drastic upgrade to the design of the interior really brought the 911 into the 21st century. This Generation of 911 ran from 2005 to 2012, and for the first time, development of the cabriolet version of the 997 led the design and engineering effort at Porsche with the coupé following. Porsche applied the logic that if you started with the more difficult cabriolet challenges (for chassis stiffness) the coupé version would simply be more rigid.
This is also the first implementation of the new M97 engine, an upgrade over the previous generation M96 found in the 996 and 986 cars. The 3.6L engine makes 321hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The 997 is still loved by many Porsche enthusiasts for having the right styling and for being the right size.
