Suspension and Braking The 2003 Z4's fully independent suspension system consists of MacPherson struts and aluminum control arms up front, with a multilink setup in the rear. Front and rear stabilizer bars helped keep things planted to the road. An optional sport suspension package stiffened the spring and damper rates and dropped the ride height by 0.6 inches. The Z4 was consistently praised for its handling by the automotive press because of its nearly ideal 50.4percent front/49.6 percent rear weight distribution. Exterior The Z4's flowing design, with its odd angles and sharp creases, polarized testers from Motor Trend, Car and Driver and Road and Track. BMW called this design language "flame surfacing." The Z4 was the first model to employ these stylistic touches, which made their way (to a more subtle degree) to the BMW model range in following years.
